Capturing the Art of Figure Skating

The Art of Figure Skating

Capturing the Essence of Skating

As a former figure skater myself, I can honestly say that Figure Skating Art appeals to me. In looking at the art of skating, I see it through the broader lens of character qualities.

When we’re looking for the perfect print or poster to display, what is that we’re actually trying to capture?

The qualities that we think of when we think of the sport of figure skating are typically grace and athleticism. However the art of figure skating is captured when the essense and the depth of the sport is portrayed.

Bill Greene’s print shown above, in my personal opinion, highlights numerous qualities that truly define the sport; Individuality, Solitariness, Determination, Fortitude, Persistence, Peace, and most of all, Sheer Will.

Although a Skater typically trains in a Skating Club with a Coach and many other skaters, in the end, the skater only has one person they can call upon to achieve their desired goal and dream, and that person is themself.

When the training is done, and the practice is over, and we stand, alone, in the center of the ice waiting for our music to start, everything we’ve ever learned is now completely up to us.

The skater – in the middle of a frozen lake – dependent totally upon self.
