“Listen to the Song” - I Am My Mothers Daughter
(VERSE 1)
She sits alone
rewinding her life story
wondering did she do enough
does she know I Am all I Am because of her
found my place in this world
‘cause of the shoulders she let me lean on
‘cause of the tears she wiped away
does she know I love my life
‘cause of how she paved my paths
does she know when I lay my head down
I thank her first and last
for what she’s given of herself
and though many years have passed
I am now a woman who can see
my mother’s life story told through me
(CHORUS)
I am my mothers daughter
I am the light that shines for others
cause she let her light shine bright on me
I am my mothers daughter
filled with hope during adversity
I am my mothers daughter
she’s forever in my heart
I am my mothers daughter
I am her work of art
(VERSE 2)
Holding my child I know
I hold a piece of my mothers love
she put me first so many times
as I will do for mine
‘cause of the lessons she always taught me
‘cause of the way in which she carried herself
does she know I gather strength from her
‘cause of her compassionate grace
does she know I pass the stories down
for her grandkids to embrace
(BRIDGE to FINAL CHORUS)
As my children’s life begin
I am my mother’s student painter
who loves with all her heart
because…
I am my mothers daughter
I am the light that shines for others
cause she let her light shine bright on me
I am my mothers daughter
filled with hope during adversity
I am my mothers daughter
she’s forever in my heart
I am my mothers daughter
I am her work of art

My husband says my poems are too deep
Complains they are too elusive
So forgive me please
This one’s for him
I’m keeping it simple for stupid!
Twenty long years ago I was struck by cupid
Got me right through the heart
Grown wiser since then
Tore it down to size
Now it’s a three inch dart
Don’t get me wrong you’re a fabulous guy
And I’ll always love ya honey
But if I had to do it over again
I’m telling you straight
I’de have to do it for money
Worry not my sweet you will always be
My little balding eagle
You’re always there
With your food dish in hand
Much like Charlie’s Beagle
I’ll stop teasing you
after all you gave me four perfect sons
They’re gorgeous like a seaside tide
Don’t get excited babe
You must have figured out
They get that from my family’s side
Ok Ok I’ll say something nice
You really are a great father
But before your head swells
Remember this, it takes a real man
To make a daughter
So this love poem is for you
All these compliments yours to keep
Can you tell how much
You’re appreciated now
Or was I just a little too deep!
From “the wife” (hee hee)
“You know I love ya honey”

Poem, Joke: Alright, I wrote this as a joke for my husband. He finds my poetry too deep, so I decided to dedicate this “simple” poem to him. Ha! Ok, he laughed. I mean really! when I have to create a grade school poem for the hubster to appreciate it…I give up. Not. So this is for the man of my dreams *ahem*.

One stitch at a time
this life story of mine,
A patchwork quilt
made with loves design,
Gathered pictures
sewn to tell my tale,
This blanket of love
not made for sale,
The passion of smiles
the lessons of tears,
Wrapped around
my journey of wonderful years,
I’m warmed by my life
as I sleep in this peace,
With this memory comforter
in patches of fleece,
Surrounded by family,
in this life quilt of art,
Forever my loved ones
stay next to my heart

The Patchwork Quilt of My Life: Have you ever had a Memory Quilt made? They are such a fantastic idea, especially the ones designed with actual family photographs on them. If you would like to use my poem for quilting, just pop me an email for permission.
