In These Feathered Fields

Walking across soft fields

in colored songs not black or white

I meet ten million souls

Who dance my arduous plight

mountains of whispering feathers

flitter all about

until one by one these sweeping dreams

rest on the ground, worn-out

but as the last wilted feather falls

souls begin to shout

while I lift my weary head

they don’t let my flame go out

each hands me back a feather

to give me needed peace

making me immortal

they don’t let my music cease

they bless my final dance

and willingly outpour

a love filled last hurrah

but they’ve given so much more

you see

a journey such as mine

ached for faith restored

and as I say goodbye

my soul now freely soars

in these feathered fields

through these open doors

When A Son Loses His Father

Now that he’s without him
what is he working for
He had never truly realized
His dad drove him to want more
With working came acceptance
replaced emotions he concedes and his father unavailable,
he kept his schedule filled with deeds,
When his father passed away
it broke him to the core
just learning he and his dad
had things in common they stood for
His dad had loved unconditionally,
despite his character flaws
and perhaps was thinking he’d call his son
when the winter thaws
but winters came and went
and neither reached to call
yet they truly loved each other
despite their voices being awol
His imperfect life with his Dad,
is now the oddest gift he treasures
He’s vowed to be a father
for his sons to proudly measure
He says “I love you” to his kids,
and has being saying so for many years
then thinks of what he missed
with his Dad,
and it reduces him to tears
Nothing can make that emptiness go
he carries the lesson learned
Knowing now to speak his love out loud
not said to be returned
When a son loses his father
a part of himself fades into the light
as do the words he rarely stated,
like, “Dad, nice to hear from you tonight”
or picking up the phone to say,
“hi dad, did you just hear”,
are calls he wished he’d made
while he wipes away a tear,
Now in a prayer he says, “I love you Dad”,
to the heavens he kneels and pleads
and wonders if his fathers knows
that his love’s so strong, it bleeds
“Dad, in case you didn’t know it,
I love you more than I can say
I always tell my kids I love them
I learned that the hard way,
and in my heart,
my father,
you shall always stay”.

Song Lyric Version of

When A Son Loses His Father

(VERSE ONE)
Now that he’s without him
what is he workin’ for
He had never truly realized
His dad drove him to want more
With workin’ came acceptance
replaced emotions he concedes
and his father unavailable,
he kept his schedule filled with deeds,
When his father passed away
it really broke him to the core
just learning he and his dad
had things in common they stood for

(CHORUS)
His dad had loved unconditionally,
despite his character flaws
and perhaps was thinking he’d call his son
when the winter thaws
but winters came and went
and neither reached to call
yet they truly loved each other
despite their voices being awol
His imperfect life with his Dad,
is now the oddest gift he treasures
He’s vowed to be a father
for his sons to proudly measure
He says “I love you” to his kids,
and has being saying so for many years
then thinks of what he missed
with his Dad,
and it reduces him to tears
Nothing can make that emptiness go
he carries the lesson learned
Knowing now to speak his love out loud
not said to be returned

(VERSE TWO)
When a son loses his father
a part of himself fades into the light
as do the words he rarely stated,
like, “Dad, nice to hear from you tonight”
or picking up the phone to say,
“hi dad, did you just hear”,
are calls he wished he’d made
while he wipes away a tear,
Now in a prayer he says, “I love you Dad”,
to the heavens he kneels and pleads
and wonders if his fathers knows
that his love’s so strong, it bleeds
“Dad, in case you didn’t know it,
I love you more than I can say
I always tell my kids I love them
I learned that the hard way,
and in my heart,
my father,
you shall always stay”.

(BRIDGE into Final Chorus)
Winters passed into the night
like this father and this son
too late to change the way it went
too late to change a wrong, he says
“Goodbye my father,
I love you more than I thought I might
and Despite my life’s hard journey
in my heart there’s only light
and to have this love in me,
you must have done a few things right”

Although winters came and went
and neither reached to call
they truly loved each other
despite their voices being awol
Nothing can make that emptiness go
he carries the lesson learned
Knowing now to speak his love out loud
not said to be returned
“Dad, I’m sure you truly know it,
I love you more than I can say
because I always tell my kids I love them
I learned from our mistakes,
and in my heart,
my father,
you shall always stay”.

When A Son Loses His Father: Do you know someone who has experienced this type of gut-wrenching loss? Unfortunately this pain may be a sad truth, with some what of a hopeful ending, for many people. This was hard to write, for many reasons.

Hear “When a Son Loses His Father”

She Knew

Before he was born, she knew
His hair would be blond and his eyes would be blue
despite the darker locks of her other two
she knew

A God given blessing, she knew
Her love for her son would reach beyond true
Before her father passed into the dew
he left her life’s secret
his gift being her clue
Though not understanding it then,
Instinctively she knew

Although her little brother passed years before, she knew
Her son was God’s blessing, not sent in his lieu
Each spirit like one but visited by two,
she knew

Her son’s arrival, so glorious a day, she knew
His spirit clearly heavens voice reaching through
She then understood her father’s last clue
“Release yesterday’s pain to the Holy Spirit’s hue”
She always knew

Poem about a Premonition: “She Knew”…This poem is for my friend and how she expressed the challenging events of her life. Although not her only loves, three of her great loves are her son, her father and her brother. Her father and brother had passed years ago, but now, older and wiser, she is grateful for her blessings and despite her tremendous loss, she is emotionally tenacious and guided by compassion. One interesting tidbit …before her son was born, and after having 3 daughters, she knew she would have a blond haired boy. You guessed it, she did in fact have that boy who happened to have beautiful blond hair. She believed in all her being, that this son was coming to her. It so happened that her son’s arrival into this world occurred when her father was exiting – she knew.

I Paint You

I sit hear crying in the chair of my well painted life,
at the drawing that is yours…
Where are your colors?
My three shades of green sing out peace…
until I see your screaming walls of black
While watching you stare blankly into what was,
I am surrounded by what is,
loss that is not mine
this loss I own,
Your sketch is my torment,
Seeking absolution is my canvas
I paint you

Poem, Suffering from War: For the victims of war, especially the children.

His Mommy Died Today

His Mommy Died Today: Dedicated to families who have suffered this Loss throughout the world. This poem is sad, so if you’re quite emotional right now, you should consider reading this at another time. If you or someone you know have suffered a loss, my heart goes out to you, and I really hope you find some peace. This kind of pain was difficult to pen to paper. The poem below is from the perspective of an 11 year old boy, and I’m sorry to say is based on a true story.

His Mommy Died Today
(Please Answer Your Cell Phone Mommy)

His heart is crying, he’s so very young,
He doesn’t know what a dagger looks like
yet he feels one deep inside his stomach
He cries, his mommy died today,
please answer your cell phone mommy
His breaths are taken between heaving sobs
He’s never seen a raging fire,
yet he feels one consuming his spirit
Please answer your cell phone mommy
He’s her baby, he needs to hear her everyday
He keeps calling her cell phone number
for that promise made in her voice,
the voice he needs to hear,
Believing the truth as spoken,
that she’s just stepped out for a minute,
and she’ll call right back
If he could trade all eleven of his birthday wishes for one
he would ask that just this call be answered,
so he could hear,”Hi son, love ya so much sweetie,
I’ll be home shortly”,but his mommy died today,
So he goes to bed tonight, grasping her cell phone,
as it rests,as she did, on his pillow,
he gazes at the voice trapped inside
knowing it to be the last hug his mommy will give him
Her precious little boy curls up and cries out for her,
only her

Song Lyric Version

His Mommy Died Today

(V1)
His heart is crying
he’s so very young,
he doesn’t know what a dagger looks like
yet he feels one deep inside his belly
His breaths are taken between heaving sobs
he’s never seen a raging fire,
yet he feels one consuming his spirit

(refrain)
He cries. His Mommy died today.
Please answer your cell phone Mommy
please please oh please
I promise to be good
I know I could,
I have a sore tummy, please, pretty please mommy

(V2)
He’s her baby, he needs to hear her everyday
he keeps calling her cell number
for that promise made in her voice,
the voice he needs to hear,
believing the truth as spoken,
that she’s just stepped out for a minute
and she’ll call right back

(refrain)
He cries. His Mommy died today.
Please answer your cell phone Mommy
please please oh please
I promise to be good
I know I could
I have a sore tummy, please, pretty please mommy

(V3)
If he could trade all eleven of his
birthday wishes for one,
he would ask that just this call be answered,
so he could hear,
“hi son, love ya so much sweetie,
I’ll be home shortly”,
But…

(refrain)
He cries. His Momma died today.
Please answer your cell phone Mommy
please please oh please
I promise to be good
I know I could
I have a sore tummy, please, pretty please mommy

(V4)
So instead, he goes to bed tonight,
grasping her cell phone, as it rests,
as she did, on his pillow,
he gazes at the voice trapped inside
knowing it will be the last hug his Mommy
will give him,

(refrain)
Her precious little boy curls up and cries
out for her, only her.
His Mommy died today.
Please answer your cell phone Mommy, please
please oh please
I have a sore tummy

I miss you mommy

God’s Princess

Song Lyrics about Child Abuse: This was the second song we wrote together. Our last song was a light topic, fun in nature, so this time we decided to tackle a sad, serious and unfortunately all too real subject – child abuse. If we could keep all the children safe and warm, I know most of us would do so in a heartbeat. On a side note, this is not based on a true story or from any or our own personal perspective’s, and the character “Lorrie”, is fictitious for this song.

GOD’S PRINCESS

(VERSE 1)
A pattern of leaves cover the sidewalk
Which is layered in scribbled chalk
A lonely bicycle lies quietly in the yard
Looking at that place can be quite hard
We’ve all heard the terrible sad stories
But how come no-one heard little Lorrie

(CHORUS)
She cries tears in her darkened room
cuddled up with her teddy bear
does anyone even know she’s there
starring in her own nightmare,
It can’t be right to be scared like this
So she pretends she’s God’s Princess
held in his arms safe for the night
with his love,
at peace
she’s tucked in tight,

(VERSE 2)
In the living room, a family portrait
The air it hangs heavy, pain and hurt
On the wall, a childs praying hands
Can’t beleive no one made a stand
A neighborhood of tightly shut eyes
In the dead of night, you still hear cries

(CHORUS)
She cries tears in her darkened room
cuddled up with her teddy bear
does anyone even know she’s there
starring in her own nightmare,
It can’t be right to be scared like this
So she pretends she’s God’s Princess
held in his arms safe for the night
with his love,
at peace
she’s tucked in tight

(BRIDGE/VERSE to FINAL CHORUS)
A childhood stolen, entirely missed
what will happen to God’s Princess
will she go home before she’s grown
or be saved from being alone…
by living angels who wipe her tears
as she cries in her darkened room
someone to be there
to erase her fears
rescuing her from this nightmare…
….but today she still cries,
and it’s not right to be scared like this
So she pretends she’s God’s Princess
held in his arms safe for the night
with his love and at peace
for one minute she’s alright,
until daylight…
will she go home before she’s grown
or be saved from being alone,
