Carrie Underwood Song for Her Son and Husband

There Is No Greater Love than Our Love for Our Children and If We’re Very Fortunate, Our Spouse as Well

Fans of Carrie Underwood know they’ll usually find one song on her album that’s so personal to her that she’ll probably never sing it live.

Added to this list of personal songs is What I Never Knew I Always Wanted,’ the last track on her latest album, Storyteller.

Fans may remember another profound personal song from Ms. Underwood’s album Blown Away called Forever Changed, a song about Alzheimer’s. Due to her connection to the lyrics, she’s indicated that this song, like ‘What I Never Knew I Always Wanted,’ won’t be sung live.

Featured Video Playlist: A growing list of Ms. Underwood’s Country Songs that are very personal to her, including ‘Forever Changed’ positioned 3rd on the playlist. The first song is Carrie Underwood’s Song for her Son and Husband.

Every Mom Can Relate to These Lyrics

“And now I’m holdin’ what I never knew I always wanted
I couldn’t see; I was blind ’til my eyes were opened
I didn’t know there was a hole
Something missing in my soul
til you filled it up, oh, with your love”

When your baby is born, and you hold that precious soul for the first time, the untouchable, unseen, unexplainable, most powerful feeling you’ve ever known fills your spirit.

You thought you knew what ‘Love’ was, but realize if someone asked you to describe love, you would never be able to find the words. Cliche? Not when you’ve held love, that invisible power only you feel. Every soul who has felt love knows what this is; it’s unique to each of us, undetectable to the human eye, yet it’s the most piercing, real possession you’ll ever own. It’s not something you can sell, buy, have taken from you, give away, run from, hide from, explain, or fully share – it belongs to you, it’s yours til the end of time, and time never ends.

Life Teaches Us What Matters

Without any doubt, I know Ms. Underwood feels what most Mothers feel. We can relate to her love for her son, yet we understand that it’s unique to her soul, as our love for our children is unique to our souls.

I’ve often said there are no words to describe this bond between mother and child and tried to express my perspective on this conundrum of emotion in an article featuring a song by Ms. Barbra Streisand, written for her son, called ‘If I Could.’

Being a Mom is the most challenging, most joyous, and most painful thing we ever go through. Watching our children grow while holding the correct amount of fear and faith may be the most challenging balancing act we never accomplish. How do we watch them cry and hurt? How do we protect them yet let them go? Please don’t ask me; I haven’t mastered it and expect I never will. My four sons are young men now.

Carrie, we understand your emotions and appreciate this beautiful song that expresses them.—blessings to you and yours.
