A Country Song about Someone Being There for You When Life Gets Hard
You’re Exhausted, You Don’t Need Words … A Shoulder to Lean On, or a Hug will Do Just Fine
Break on Me, by Keith Urban
“There’ll be days your heart don’t wanna beat
You pray more than you breathe
And you just wanna fall to pieces,And nights, those 2 AM calls
Where dreams become walls
And you just need a break, Break on me”
You’ve been through so much in this life and the one thing you’re blessed with is the gift of a good friend or significant other who you’ve always been able to rely upon. When life kicks you in the teeth, this person has been right there to listen, or hold you through it.
It’s the kind of loving relationship that doesn’t need words. They hold you and tell you it’s ok to ‘break on me’. The lyrics to Keith Urban’s beautiful song ‘Break on Me’ speak directly to this kind of relationship.
“Shatter like glass
Come apart in my hands
Take as long as it takes, girl
Break on me
Put your head on my chest
Let me help you forget
When your heart needs to break
Just break on me”
This world can sometimes be a challenging place. Well that’s putting it mildly.
When things become more than we can process as human beings, that’s when a step back, a hand out, a soft shoulder or a hug seem to be the best solutions. Maybe they’re the best because they’re the simplest. ‘Break on me, shatter like glass, come apart in my hands’. The secret to life is held in the heart by support with empathy, understanding, and compassion; the most powerful gifts on earth. They are symbols of love, and love breads hope.
When you’re feeling like the world is an ugly place, Mister Rogers from the famed ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’, put it best, ‘look for the helpers‘. The ones who hold others, the ones who hold you, or you… the one who’s holding a struggling soul.
There is so much beauty in this world. So much.
It’s hard to see it, when ugliness peaks it head through. But don’t despair, light is stronger than darkness and while you’re pondering your pain, remember this: Seek the light. Collectively, as we spread light, love and hope, we deny darkness.
Don’t believe that the world is any ugly place. don’t. The world isn’t ugly. The behaviour of certain souls is ugly, and that’s the difference. Certain souls are NOT the world. And they never can be unless we give them the power to be the world. We won’t. Stay hopeful.
Life isn’t perfect for me either, but you can still, break on me.
