THE LIFE I BUILT FROM BROKEN THINGS (Lyrics)
[Verse 1]
I wrote my name in the sand,
it was washed away by the rain,
a beach walk and a prayer
nothing left for me to save,
My life had holes in the floor,
and the breeze even hurt,
but I still swept up that sand,
I believed something would work
[Pre-Chorus]
One band-aid at a time,
nothing left with a shine,
my broken life
had many mountains to climb
[Chorus]
Just don’t count me out
I’m rebuilding my plan,
Piece by piece
where the cracks can’t reach,
nothing can take those things from me
what’s inside is always mine to keep
I’m still standing
without my name in the sand
and those busted floorboards
will get fixed in the end
[Verse 2]
I know a struggling heart
can still find a beat
When demands are high,
When it looks like defeat,
that’s when I’m stubborn
and kick up my feet
I sold all that regret
and made more room
fear is now scared of me
it knows I’m immune
[Pre-Chorus]
One band-aid at a time
nothing left with a shine
with my broken life
there are mountains to climb
[Chorus]
You better not count me out
I’m rebuilding my plan,
Piece by piece
where the cracks can’t reach,
nothing can take those things from me
what’s inside is always mine to keep
I’m still standing
without my name in the sand,
and those busted floorboards
will get fixed in the end
[Bridge]
Let the storm come through
let it shake the ground
I know how to rise
When the rain pours down
the life I build from broken things
happens because I hide my wings,
It’s more than hammers and a few nails
I’m just too stubborn to know how to fail
[Chorus Outro]
Yeah, I’m still standing
despite those broken things,
when the rain pours down
you’ll see my wings
life isn’t only hammers and nails
when you’re just too stubborn to know how to fail
The STORY Behind the Lyrics:
THE WRECKAGE OF MY LIFE! I wrote these lyrics and created and produced this piece on June 14th and 15th, 2026. I wrote these words, using the metaphor of a home and the weather to highlight the fortitude we have when the chips are down. This song is a light for anyone facing insurmountable adversity, reminding you that you are stronger than you know. While written from a woman’s perspective, the message of tenacity applies to anyone fighting to move forward.
I look upon this as my anthem. I am old enough to have navigated some truly challenging chapters, yet I still believe I am in control; the one thing I own that no one can take is me. Even in the midst of a nightmare, every incremental inch forward gets you there. You do not have to do it all in one day, and it is okay to have weaker days—we are all human.
My favorite line in the song captures this spirit: “When the rain pours down, the life I build from broken things happens because I hide my wings. It is more than hammers and a few nails. I am just too stubborn to know how to fail.” People may not always see your strength, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. My fortitude has always been present, even when my wings were hidden. I hope these lyrics give you strength during your own trying times. Thank you for listening.

Who This Song is For:
- For anyone rebuilding their life after hardship, loss, disappointment, or a difficult chapter, especially when it feels like everything has fallen apart and there is no clear path forward.
- For people who are struggling but refuse to give up, even when progress happens slowly, one small step or one piece at a time. This song is for anyone who needs a reminder that moving forward does not have to happen all at once.
- For anyone who has been counted out, underestimated, or made to feel defeated, yet still carries an inner strength that refuses to disappear. It is a song about resilience, determination, and standing back up when life knocks you down.
- For someone facing overwhelming challenges who needs hope and encouragement to rebuild from what remains, whether they are recovering from a painful life experience, starting over, overcoming fear, or simply trying to make it through a difficult season.
- For anyone who needs a reminder that their circumstances do not define their strength or their future. When life feels like wreckage, this song is for the person who is still standing, still rebuilding, and stubborn enough to believe they can create something better from the broken pieces.
