Endless doomscrolling is costing you more than you think. As the lyrics say, “In a hundred years, what will I know if I never control where my thumbs will go?” ** Listen on Spotify, iTunes, or Amazon:** iTunes & Amazon are affiliate links.
GLIMMERSCROLLING (TITLE)
[Verse 1]
I gave my phone a dirty look today
Constant noise, a world in disarray
Or that’s what it’s trying to sell me
Feeding my fears,
it knows my habits,
what l addictively hear
It’s begging I doomscroll
to steal my time,
And that fear-money they make
will never be mine
[Chorus]
I caught onto that algorithm
stuffing my soul
with unproductive trips
Down useless rabbit holes
Comments served up
just for trolling
have been replaced
with glimmerscrolling,
Inspiration and hope
What’s wrong with that
Nothing except it won’t
make bank accounts fat
So they push fear,
And I push back.
[Verse 2]
I sat down at my desk
Turned on that tube
Decided today
I would learn something new
Something productive
Something I could use
to clear out the noise
and feed my muse
In a hundred years what will I know
If I never control where my thumbs will go
[Chorus]
I caught onto that algorithm
stuffing my soul
with unproductive trips
Down useless rabbit holes
Comments served up
just for trolling
have been replaced
with glimmer-scrolling,
Inspiration and hope
What’s wrong with that
Nothing except it won’t
make bank accounts fat
So they push fear,
And I push back.
[Bridge]
Glimmer-scrolling,
learning, and hope,
Are the flip sides to darkness
They widened my scope,
I looked for beauty
my algorithm confused,
It showed me a world
filled with good news,
So many stories of kindness and grace,
so many good people
staring me in the face,
On and off line,
I keep my inner peace intact,
They pushed fear, and I push back
They pushed fear, so I push back
They pushed fear, so I push back

The Story Behind The Lyrics
I wrote these lyrics and created this video on April 11, 2026, to convey the message more deeply through both visuals and emotion. This video is not suggesting that we should avoid staying informed. Being aware of what is happening in the world and understanding how we can make a difference is important. What it speaks to is something else, the kind of mindless scrolling that can draw people into spaces filled with fear, anger, and heavy energy. Not everyone experiences it this way, but for some, it becomes easy to get pulled into content that feeds emotion more than truth. It can feel a bit like being handed your favorite piece of candy without realizing how difficult it is to turn it down.
This is not about removing information from your life; it is about approaching it with intention. We do have a say in what we allow into our minds, especially when it comes to what we consume on our phones and screens. If there is content you genuinely enjoy or find meaningful, that is completely valid. This message is more about recognizing when certain content is designed to pull us into fear-based or misleading narratives, where exaggeration, distortion, or even automated content can blur the line between what is real and what is not. Spending too much time trying to sort through that can become mentally draining.
One idea that has stayed with me comes from Buckminster Fuller, who said, “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” The quote is often paraphrased, but its meaning has always resonated with me. It helped shape this song, the idea that instead of being consumed by what drains us, we can choose to build something healthier through our thoughts and daily habits.
As a mother of adult children and a grandmother, I am very aware of how powerful the flow of information has become and how strongly it can influence our thinking, our emotions, and our attention. That awareness is what inspired this song, a reminder that one of the most important choices we have is what we allow into our minds, and that choice carries more weight than we often realize.
