YESTERDAY TODAY TOMORROW (Lyrics)
(VERSE 1)
I remember just yesterday
at home feeling safe
A lifetime ago when I didn’t know
It would soar by
at such a fast pace
I’m grateful for that easy time
When I was just starting out on my climb
Looking back today
reflecting on choices I made
I drove those open roads
and laughed along the way
sturdy and strong
I was boldly prepared
for those long roads that weren’t paved
(PRE CHORUS)
The canvas behind me still keeps me warm
Filled with true colors
telling my stories
from the day I was born,
I treasure that sketch that I once knew,
but the future still waits for those things yet to do
(CHORUS)
Moving forward while looking back
Yesterday’s gifts keep me on track
but those memories whisper life’s ultimate truth
to embrace present moments
and let go of my youth
there’s wonder in still having tomorrows to plan
there’s wonder in knowing
that my past built who I am
(VERSE 2)
Older me keeps blazing a trail
Passing those challenges
Forgiving myself when I fail
never the same
in life’s changing game
holding on tight
while still letting go
is the way I accept
what is unseen and unknown
(PRE CHORUS)
The canvas behind me still keeps me warm
Filled with true colors
telling my stories
from the day I was born,
I treasure that sketch that I once knew,
but the future still waits for those things yet to do
(CHORUS)
Moving forward while looking back
Yesterday’s gifts keep me on track
but those memories whisper life’s ultimate truth
to embrace present moments
and let go of my youth
there’s wonder in still having tomorrows to plan
there’s wonder in knowing my past built who I am
(BRIDGE)
The future is something my eyes can’t see
no matter my age, I know it’s waiting for me
I’m the driver, the painter,
the only one,
who can build my tomorrows
with the things I have done,
today is the day that defines where I’m going
today is the day I build for tomorrow
my thoughts and my deeds
are the guides that I need
how I think is what I know I’ll believe
my past can help me
but it’s present time where I grow
so I’ll keep moving forward
and learn about those things I don’t know
(PRE CHORUS)
The canvas behind me still keeps me warm
Filled with true colors
telling my stories
from the day I was born,
I treasure my past that I once lived and happily knew,
but my future still holds wonder
waiting for those things yet to do
there’s no age limit to build something amazing and new
THE STORY BEHIND THE LYRICS:
THE STORY: There comes a point in life when you look over your shoulder and realize just how much road is behind you. Some of it was smooth, some of it was unpaved, and all of it left its mark. But then you turn around and realize something just as important: the road ahead is still there.
“Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” is about looking back without getting stuck there. Yesterday’s memories, choices, mistakes, accomplishments, and experiences shape who we are today. But the past does not have to be the end of the story. Today is where we make choices, change direction, forgive ourselves, and decide what comes next.
The song is about having the courage to keep building a life, no matter your age or how much of your journey is already behind you. New adventures, new dreams, new challenges, and new things to create can still come. That’s why this song can fit so many turning points in life, from graduation and starting a new adventure to rebuilding, changing direction, or simply beginning another chapter.
Yesterday shaped me. Today is mine. Tomorrow is still waiting.
