Your Best Friend

Your best friend must be a certain person,

a person who guides your way,

a person who fills your heart with peace,

and helps you through your day

When you are hurt inside,

and the pain is immense,

worry not, for it is not the end,

someone will be there to help you through,

and that someone will be your friend

When you are proud of an act or an accomplishment,

and you need a person to tell,

then remind yourself of that person you have,

that person you know so well

When you are down and out,

and have no one to call,

just think what your best friend can do,

your best friend is well-known and needed a lot,

for your best friend must always be you

A Poem About Counting on Yourself: A simple poem I wrote in my teenage years during the 1970s. I can’t recall what I was thinking at that time, but it appears I was looking within to solve a problem or issue. Counting on self has been a big part of my life, so I would imagine that had something to do with the inspiration of this poem as well.
